Constituido Comité Directivo Nacional de BIOFIN en Cuba

El pasado 11 de abril, tuvo lugar en la sede de la Oficina del PNUD en La Habana, el acto de constitución del Comité Directivo Nacional de la iniciativa BIOFIN, presidido por el Vice Ministro  del Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología y Medio Ambiente (CITMA), Jose Fidel Santana y la Representante Residente de las Naciones Unidas en Cuba, Sra. Consuelo Vidal-Bruce.

Integran el Comité Directivo, altos funcionarios designados por los organismos que coordinan la iniciativa en Cuba, el Ministerio de Comercio Exterior (MINCEX), la Oficina Nacional de Estadísticas e Información (ONEI), el Ministerio de Economía y Planificación (MEP), el Banco Central de Cuba (BCC) y el Ministerio de Finanzas y Precios (MFP).

 Fue presentada por los miembros del Grupo coordinador una síntesis del trabajo realizado, en que se destacaron los resultados obtenidos y las soluciones financieras definidas para su implementación. El Vice Ministro del CITMA, se refirió a la importancia y reconocimiento ganado por la iniciativa BIOFIN y a la necesidad de atender al más alto nivel las recomendaciones derivadas de los resultados del trabajo. Fueron aprobados importantes acuerdos para elevar a los ministerios involucrados y continuar avanzando en la implementación de las propuestas.

La Oficial de la carpeta de Medio Ambiente y Energía, Gricel Acosta, resaltó la responsabilidad para Cuba de ser sede del 4to Taller Regional de BIOFIN, a desarrollase en La Habana del 22 al 24 de mayo y destacó los importantes temas que serán tratados en las sesiones previstas.

Constituted BIOFIN National Steering Committee in Cuba

The National Steering Committee of the BIOFIN initiative, chaired by the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), Jose Fidel Santana and the Resident Representative of the United Nations in Cuba, Mrs. Consuelo Vidal-Bruce,was set up at UNDP Havana, on April 11.

The Steering Committee is comprised of senior officials appointed by the Central State Administration Bodies that coordinate the initiative in Cuba, the Ministry of Foreign Trade (MINCEX), the Ministry of Economy and Planning (MEP), the Ministry of Finance and Prices (MFP), the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI) and the Central Bank of Cuba (BCC).

A summary of the work carried out was presented by the members of the Coordinating Group, highlighting the results obtained and the financial solutions defined for their implementation. The Vice Minister of CITMA, referred to the importance and recognition gained by the BIOFIN initiative and the need of paying attention at the highest level to the recommendations derived from the results of the work. Important agreements were approved to continue advancing in the implementation of the proposals, in conjunction with the other institutions involved.

UNDP's Environment and Energy Officer, Gricel Acosta, highlighted the responsibility for Cuba to host the annual Regional Workshop of BIOFIN, to be held in Havana from May 22 to 24 and emphasized the important issues that will be addressed in the sessions planned.
